Solar Dynamics Observatory still sending spectacular images of the Sun , especially in recent months, when our star, recently awakened from the deep past and solar minimum, it is showing increasingly active and phenomena spectacular place with ever increasing frequency.
On February 24 a huge flame came from the solar horizon (as seen from Earth ), releasing a mass of hot plasma that swirled and spun for 90 minutes before disappearing, in part precipitated again on photosphere final project and the rest into space. The extraordinarily rich visual capabilities of SDO , who sends us Super-HD images, to appreciate, with a level of unprecedented detail, its intricate structure.
While such eruptions can pose a danger to Earth (not the planet itself, of course you are, but for energy and communication systems) is not here, because particulate emissions were not aiming to our world and its effect was very limited. However, it is all a reminder of the need to study and monitor the Sun , given the apparent vulnerability of our tech civilization.
The Solar Dynamics Observatory, launched on February 11, 2010 in program Living With a Star of NASA for the study of Sol known as AIA (Atmospheric Imaging Assembly), composed of four individual telescopes, is responsible for obtaining continuous images of our star, particularly throughout the ultraviolet spectrum.
